On the 13th October, the United Nations Development Programme
(UNDP) in Libya launched the preparation of its first ever
Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) at a workshop at the Mahari
hotel in Tripoli. The session brought together over 25
government officials representing a diversified stakeholder base
(from General Peoples Committees and government authorities) who
engaged with UNDP Libya programme staff in the one-day
discussions.
The CPAP workshop created a positive momentum and will be
followed by a series of proposed meetings aimed at identifying
specific development initiatives and projects within the
framework of the new Country Programme (2011-2014), which was
approved by the UNDP/UNFPA Executive Board in June 2010 and
fully endorsed by Libya.
In her opening remarks, UNDP Resident Representative, Mrs.
Costanza Farina pointed out that the CPAP was, “very much a
welcome development with the objective of ensuring a better
understanding of how UNDP will support national priorities. It
is an instrument to clarify more in details the key strategic
cooperation areas already agreed upon in the Country Programme
and to translate them into specific programme initiatives based
on UNDP added value.”
The CPAP preparation process is expected to be completed by 15
December 2010, and the official signature to take place by 15
January 2011.
